SNAP Challenge - John and Nancy - Shopping Day

I went to the grocery store to purchase the food for our (John and Nancy) five day SNAP Challenge. John and I have personal commitments next week that make it impossible to complete the challenge.

Before I shopped I was able to look through the grocery store ads and make a food plan and grocery list that took advantage of the sales this week. I also loaded digital coupons to my loyalty card in case I purchased anything covered by the coupons. Our plan for the week is to eat:

eggs and toast for breakfast each day
peanut butter and jelly, carrot sticks and celery for lunch most days (hot dogs and burritos for lunch some days for John)
chicken for dinner 2 nights, hot dogs for dinner 2 nights and frozen burritos for dinner 1 night
1 soda a day each and home brewed ice tea

At the store I purchased for $38.38
- 2 loaves of bread for $2
- 1 package of hot dog buns $1 *
- 2 packages of hot dogs $2.67 *
- Baby spring mix $2.99 (the store was out of the 10 oz package that was on sale for $4.49 so I was offered 2 5 oz packages for the price of one)
- 1 store brand Picante $1.50 *
- 1 lb rice .89
- 1 jar of Welch's grape jelly $2.00 (I had a $.40 digital coupon for this) *
- 1 jar of store brand salad dressing $.99
- 2 cans of pork and beans $1.00 *
- 1 package of margarine $.89
- 8 oz store brand shredded cheese $1.88 *
- 18 oz jar of Peter Pan peanut butter $2.00 * (it was $.10 more than the store brand)
- 18 ct large eggs $2.19
- 1 liter Big K diet soda $.79 *
- 1 8 ct package of store brand frozen burritos $2.50
- 1 packages of frozen vegetables $1.00 *
- 6 pieces of boneless skinless chicken breast $7.42 * (I only needed 4, but this was the smallest package I could find)
- 2 lbs carrots $1.29
- 1 celery $.99
- 1 package tortilla chips $1.62
- 1 6 pack store brand diet soda $1.18

What wasn't purchased:
- condiments for the hot dogs - small bottles of mustard, relish and ketchup cost about $2.50 so I estimate the cost of the condiments to be about $.25 for the week
- tea bags, sweetener and lemon juice - I usually drink decaffeinated tea, but it's more expensive so I will drink caffeinated tea this week and drink less of it - I estimate the cost to be $.54 for 3 quarts and I will probably drink 9-12 quarts during the week
- also 2 tomatoes from the Farmer's Market that I purchased earlier in the week and didn't want to waste which cost me $1.00
